Only a couple years after he first recorded it, several R&B artists took the catchy blues melody to “Now’s The Time” and recorded for themselves with different names – Charlie Parker never entered any legal fray. There is even a recording of a young John Coltrane playing a solo on “Now’s The Time” while still a Navy musician out of Hawaii. Think of it as a throwback to Charlie Parker’s Kansas City roots rather than a bebop tour de force.
