Written in 1947, “In Walked Bud” honors Monk’s friend Bud Powell. It is partially based on the Irving Berlin standard “Blue Skies”. The tune itself uses both the relative major and minor tonalities and is a great exercise for this reason alone. Try playing along with this up-tempo backing track.
