I Love You

[Cole Porter]

Cole Porter originally wrote “I Love You” for the musical *Mexican Hayride* as a bet with a friend that he could build a song around an all too common phrase. It’s usually covered with a straight-8th feel – like the samba version here – or as a straight ahead swing. Lots of musicians prefer the former because the melody contains lots of long held notes. Ahmad Jamal and his trio do the song real justice and are more than worth checking out when you’re done here.
